Exhibition

COUNTERFLUX: DEFENSIVE ORNAMENT
Running in conjunction with the 2011 SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) Conference in Seattle, WA was the exhibit Counterflux: Defensive Ornament. This exhibition showcased work designed to protect and fortify wearers against the perils and flux of everyday life, and underlined the crucial safeguarding function of jewelry and other bodily ornament. Curator Suzanne Ramljak, a writer, art historian, and curator, is editor of Metalsmith magazine. She was formerly curator at the American Federation of Arts and editor of Sculpture magazine. Several pieces by Kristin, including Eyeball Pendant (pictured at left) were featured in the show during the month of May at the Gail Gibson Gallery. Other pieces included Feminine Protection.

Counterflux: Defensive Ornament and Kristin's metalwork continue on as part of a larger traveling exhibition, Protective Ornament: Amulet to Armor. The exhibit opens March 2013 at the National Metal Museum in Memphis, TN and coincides with publication of the book, by the same title, edited by Ramljak.

For those of you who are not familiar with Thomas Mann, he was recently featured in the PBS broadcast of CRAFT IN AMERICA, which premiered this past May.

This is the sixth book that Kristin's work has been featured in. Don't know about the other five? Visit the Books section on Kristin's website.
