STUDENT WORK
HEATHER |
"I started metalsmithing classes in a Vermont barn in 1994 and then after many years hiatus found Kristin in New Mexico. I've been working with her for about 3 years now and she has helped me start where I left off in the barn. She has been the most down to earth, encouraging teacher and mentor that I could ask for. Her work is inspiring for all of us and the studio is a great environment for her students to learn and be inspired by one another." |

Professional Information:
I am a native of Louisiana, now living in New Mexico. My interest in metalsmithing and jewelry was fueled by my years spent living and working in other cultures. (Particularly Nepal, India, West Africa and the Caucasus, which all have long traditions of metalsmithing and jewelry making.)
After finishing a BA in Cultural Anthropology and an MA in International and Intercultural Management, I spent 8 years working with refugees in post-conflict countries - primarily working with women on microfinance and income generation projects. I had the great fortune to work with many artisans from cultures around the world that have influenced my life and interest in art today. I'm now a mom of two and try to spend any spare time learning and working on my jewelry.
